On Saturday July 6th, Cromane Seafest hosted their official launch party for the upcoming Food & Maritime Festival, Cromane Seafest on September 14th and 15th at Jacks Coastguard Restaurant, Cromane. Guests at the launch were treated to the best of home grown Cromane Mussels and Oysters washed down with perfectly paired bubbly from Fizz Van Ireland ahead of the launch.

Cromane’s own and Kerry Footballer, Donnchadh Walsh opened the launch and gave guests an insight to his life growing up in the area from picking periwinkles on the beach to rowing for the local club and finally putting roots down at Cromane Football Club. ‘Cromane is a hidden gem but our hidden gem is getting noticed far and wide. We have the best oysters, mussels and salmon in the land, our location is idyllic and we are proud to show it off to the masses’ Donnchadh said. He went on to thank the committee for organising a new and special event in Cromane’s future calendar.

The Seafest Committee Crew, made up of local people from different age groups, have put together an amazing festival celebrating Cromane’s finest local seafoods with maritime market tastings where you can meet the friendly fishermen who work hard to bring you the freshest and finest Cromane Mussels, Oysters and Salmon. Local Oyster Farmers will be the stars of the weekend when they battle it out for Cromane First Oyster Shucking Champion.  Festive go-ers that are not seafood lovers, can still enjoy the fayre with an abundance of quality festive food trucks.

Also attending the launch was Lee Griffin, Business Development of Reeks District. Lee spoke about the importance of Cromane and the festival in the Kerry Tourism Industry and wish the festival every success.

Finally, Fionan Walsh, Cromane Seafest Committee,  gave details of what to expect at the event, detailing the attractions and activities that will be taking place. He advised guests to come and enjoy the array Surf and Turf activities including BIM’s Remote Arc Classroom, water trampoline, kayaking, SUP Boarding, beach safari’s and kite flying demos to mention a few. With knot tying lessons to trawler races, kids activities as well as food and drinks galore, the weekend is jam packed of Food, Family Time and Fun.

‘It’s going to be a fantastic festival for the area’ Fionan said ‘We are looking forward to showing off our beautiful village, enjoying all the watersport activities planned as well as Cromane’s world renowned Mussels, Oysters & Salmon to all that attend Cromane Seafest on September 14th & 15th  Fionan went onto say ‘The support and encouragement received from local business and people towards the festival is overwhelming and humbling, on behalf of the committee I would like to thank each and everyone of you!’
