Killarney sports leisure centre complex is the location for the Local election count centre today as officials are busy counting votes from both the Killarney Municiple area and the Kenmare Municipal Area.

The Kenmare count was the first of the two to be revealed with the count centre erupting in cheers when Johnny Healy-Rae, Michael Cahill and Norma Foley all elected on the first count.

Johnny Healy-Rae topped the poll with an impressive 3023 first preference votes with Fianna Fail’s Michael Cahill & Norma Moriarty finishing with 2219 and 1966 first preference votes respectively.

The Killarney Municipal area results were announced which closely resembled last nights final tally figures with Kilgarvan’s Maura Healy-Rae pulling a staggering 3099 first preference votes.

Kerry Independence Alliance’s Michael Gleeson was next highest result with 1,959 first preference votes and both were elected to Kerry County Council on the first count.

The second count for the Killarney Municipal area followed a few hours later with Brendan Cronin and Niall Kelleher being re-elected to massive celebrations.

Count three for the Killarney area was called at 5.35pm with Donal Grady filling the fifth seat.
